MEI, K4 developer vjoon (formerly SoftCare), and a number of third-party developers are always working on modules and add-on products to improve the K4 user experience and increase K4 functionality. Contact MEI to find out how these products can enhance your operation.
ALS Direct
Link your Page Director Ad Layout System to your editorial K4 setup. ALS Direct places the ALS issue, complete with ad paths, directly into the K4 database, where the pages can be opened as InDesign documents. Updates continue throughout the pagination process, and the K4 page JPEGs are visible to the ALS operator.
InPorter (Coming Soon)
A server-side utility, InPorter automatically ingests most types of content and their metadata (including XMP) into the K4 workflow.
InWord (Coming Soon)
Integrating InCopy with Microsoft Word 2007, InWord lets writers open or create K4 articles and check them in and out of the K4 database from within the Word environment. Users work with the familiar Word interface, including tools such as spellcheck and text styling, while K4 keeps track of the files.
JumpStory (Coming Soon)
This highly configurable module manages jumps and jumplines automatically across InDesign pages and layouts. JumpStory lets you insert jumps, then keeps track of them if the layouts change.
K4 File Manager
Manage pictures, ads, audio-visual and other types of objects in K4 by checking them in with File Manager. File paths are stored in the database; when files are checked out, they open and can be edited in their native applications, such as Adobe Photoshop or Microsoft Excel.
K4 Overview
Review K4 pages from any Web browser. A password-protected Web interface displays high-resolution JPEG views of InDesign layouts, searchable by query or issue, complete with color cues that signal where they are in the workflow. It's perfect for supervisors and others who aren't K4 users but want to browse stories and layouts and keep track of where things stand.
K4 Revision Manager
Compare any two versions of a K4 article in a single review window. Text colors and strikethroughs flag edits and deletions. When comparing the current checked-out article with an earlier version, edits may be undone.
K4 Web Editor
Check out, check in, write and edit K4 articles via any Web browser. Accurate representations of K4 articles, complete with styling, font mapping and layout geometry, are generated by Adobe InDesign Server. No K4 client needed! Articles checked out with Web Editor are locked in the K4 database; checking in from Web Editor unlocks the file and updates the database.
K4 Web Importer
Connect to your K4 system via a Web browser and check files into your database from anywhere you're working. Manage articles, layouts, pictures, ads, audio-visual and other non-K4 objects of any type for which your publication is configured.
MadeToPrint Auto
MadeToPrint Auto uses status changes or metadata as triggers to automate output from the K4 system. This allows preflighting, packaging, proofing and PDF generation directly from K4.
Notes Manager
The Notes Manager plug-in expands the functionality of Adobe inline notes by adding sorting and filtering capabilities for attributes such as note author and time of insertion.
Overset Manager
The Overset Manager plug-in generates a palette that lists and locates overset frames, and displays information such as length and number of lines.
PrimeBase Replication Server
The PrimeBase Replication server is a fully programmable platform for real-time replication and distribution of K4 data. One or more databases can be synchronized and kept up to date, providing quick switchover if the K4 production server becomes unavailable.
XML Exporter
Whether it’s for publishing to the Web, archiving, syndication or transfer to a digital asset management system, the K4 XML Exporter provides a cost-effective and standards-compliant means for organizing and exporting individual articles or complete issues to XML directly from the K4 database.
